Discovering Data for Drug Discovery
The Pharmaceutical Industry is facing major systematic failure in discovering novel drugs. Although some of this may be attributed to the ‘low hanging fruit’ already being harvested, there are othere forces at play. A key recent advance in technology has been via machine learning / AI; however, it is clear that this alone is not enough, and smart integration and hypothesis generation and validation across data will be essential before progress is realised. Additionally, the most recent methods, for example deep learning, can be voracious in their need for data. In this presentation, I cover strategies for data discovery and integration, specifically connecting compounds through to pharmacological effects and molecular targets. Finally, the issue of scientific reproducibility, and its impact on data analysis is discussed.
